My sewing has been on the back-burner, and that is why I haven’t posted on my sewing blog lately. Taking my kids to school in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon, as well as getting them to and from practice, has taken so much energy. Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome leave me compromising between being a Mom and being creative.
I did finish my Father-in-Law’s Elvis themed curtains, though. I even made him a pillow too. I didn’t use any particular tutorial. I researched online and checked out books from the library. I always like things better when I go with my own design, rather than following a tutorial exactly. Making things from my own brain satisfies my creative monster more than when I use a pattern.
I bought the black panels. The valance and tie backs are made out of Elvis fabric that I found on clearance at Wal-Mart. There was three yards, which ended up being just enough to make the box-pleated valance, the tie backs and the pillow. My Father-in-Law was happy, which makes me happy.
I am teaching my nine-year-old, Katie, how to sew. We started with a t-shirt for her My Life doll. I prefer the My Life dolls because they look like American Girl, but are much more affordable. We haven’t finished the shirt because I’m making her finish homework and have a clean room before we work on it. We are using this tutorial from New Green Mama (http://www.newgreenmama.com/2011/08/18-inch-doll-t-shirt-pattern-tutorial.html) that we found on Pinterest. I’m trying to teach Katie how to find tutorials online and how to be frugal with her sewing. The hardest part of teaching, is letting her do things herself. Sometimes, I want to correct her work or do it myself, but I know she’ll never learn if I do that.
I still have buttons on the brain, but I’ve yet to start a project using them. I have so many alterations to do for my girls and myself, that I don’t know when I’ll get to my button fun. I’ve also begun recycling. They don’t accept lids, so I’ve been pinning a lot of projects that use lids. I might have to combine the buttons with the lids. I also put together a scrabble art project using the board, tiles and some mosaic tile I found at Goodwill. I just haven’t figured out how I’m going to attach the tiles to the board, yet.
I have all these ideas and all these materials, but lack the energy required to get them done. I am actually avoiding Pinterest at this point. I just get so many ideas and I want to do them all at once, which is obviously not working for me. I feel like I’m going to explode with all the creativity backlog in my body.
Writing about this was supposed to make me feel better. So far, I’m even more anxious about being more productive. Creativity ADD is rough. I just remembered all the embroidery hoops I found at various thrift stores. Where do I start?
